One of the most distinctive and central voices in jungle and drum ‘n’ bass, MC Fats (real name Wildale Spencer), also known as Singing Fats, has passed away.
His death was first reported online today (March 10) after Andy C’s RAM Records confirmed his death in a tweet. The message read, “We are deeply saddened to learn of MC Fats’ passing.
He was a legend at DNB and a close friend to our family from the start, it went on to say.
We mourn his passing and offer our condolences to his loved ones at this time.
We pray that his memory will endure. Pray for World Peace, Love, and Unity.
Singing Fats Cause of Death
The health of Fats had been declining for quite some time. Over the course of 2018, a drum ‘n’ bass community fundraiser brought in over £10,000 to help pay for life-saving heart surgery.
He had been a key part of the jungle and drum ‘n’ bass scene since its infant days and appeared on a number of its most iconic tracks, including ‘Peace, Love & Unity’, produced by DJ Hype.
He collaborated with artists such as Calibre, Die & Break, Dillinja, DJ Randall, and Basher, and is known for his silky, soulful vocals and roots in reggae and rare groove.
Fats also frequently attended raves and parties associated with the scene, and he even worked as a resident MC at the legendary London club fabric.
“Rest easy MC Fats, thank you for all the laughs and good times along the way, it’s a sad day for DNB, see you on the other side my friend,” Doc Scott tweeted in tribute.
