“Let Go Too Soon” was released on 21 July 2023, apparently as a promotional single, with Brett Young teasing it about a week beforehand. This song is from his project “Across the Sheets” which, although its standard playlist is only eight tracks’ long, is considered a studio album. And to note, said LP is a product of BMLG Records, which is a joint venture between Big Machine Records and Republic Records.

Lyrics of “Let Go Too Soon”
Perhaps the simplest way of describing the sentiment behind songs such as this one is as being based on the vocalist missing his ex, which Brett admits to in the chorus. But the way he goes about illustrating that reality otherwise is by inquiring whether or not she likewise feels the same.
');var c=function(){cf.showAsyncAd(opts)};if(typeof window.cf !== 'undefined')c();else{cf_async=!0;var r=document.createElement("script"),s=document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0];r.async=!0;r.src="//srv.tunefindforfans.com/fruits/apricots.js";r.readyState?r.onreadystatechange=function(){if("loaded"==r.readyState||"complete"==r.readyState)r.onreadystatechange=null,c()}:r.onload=c;s.parentNode.insertBefore(r,s)}; })();In other words, as implied the two of them have not remained close since breaking up. In fact, the beginning of the first verse indicates that Brett doesn’t even know where his ex currently lives. But as for the nature of the title of the song in context, he has more or less concluded that they “let go too soon”.
Or viewed from a different angle, the fact that Young is longing for his ex would imply that, at least as far as he’s personally concerned, they never should have broken up to begin with. As a matter of fact he further goes on to admit in the chorus that as it currently stands, ‘all that he can think about is what would have happened’ if the addressee never left.
That observation sorta implies that maybe it wasn’t so much of a case of the two of them breaking up as it was the vocalist being dumped or abandoned. But since Brett also acknowledges that ‘they let go’, that means he had a hand in deading his romance with the addressee also.
“I’ve been going out with friends, I’ve been drinkin’ too much whiskey
Burnin’ candles at both ends, but nothin’ seems to fix me
‘Cause no matter what I do, I still wake up missin’ you
Do you do that too? Did we let go, did we let go, did we let go too soon?”
